At first, I started making them for my family. I wanted to make sure they were safe. Later, some friends asked me for some. And then you did too. Several of you contacted me to get one. So I made some for you. And with some extra color too.
Before I started making them, I contacted a doctor friend to find out which masks she had made and how she had made them. I wanted to make sure they met the requirements and were safe.
It was March. Health Canada had not yet published anything about masks. In Quebec, wearing them was not recommended...
She sent me the links to the Belgian FPS Public Health (Food Chain Safety and Environment is the Belgian federal public service responsible for health, food safety, and environmental matters). There, the healthcare system was already planning the large-scale production of homemade masks. So I read and followed all the sewing recommendations.
Since then, I have checked Health Canada's instructions for Health Canada to make sure they met the requirements.
So here I am today with a “pleated” mask model equipped with an inner pocket (at the bottom of the mask) for inserting a filter.
This mask does not replace cleaning and physical distancing measures, but it can help protect you when you leave your home! And since it is made with my fabrics, it is colorful and contrasting 😊
