Have you ever wondered how to finish a quilt or another sewing project?
To make it neat, clean, and professional?
Have you ever heard of bias binding?
Yes, the famous binding allows you to finish a sewing project with care. It involves placing fabric all the way around our project to create a neat, hassle-free finish. But what is binding?
If we look closely at the fabric, we notice a direction in the weave. The thread used for the “warp” is what is called the “straight grain” in sewing terminology. It is the strongest and least flexible direction of a fabric.
If we then take the perpendicular thread, it is also called the “straight grain” in French. And if we take the diagonal of the fabric, which is more flexible, that is what is called the “bias.”
You’ve received your kit, already assembled your quilt, and only the finishing touches and two triangles remain. But why two triangles? For the binding!
In the following video, I’ll show you how to prepare your binding using the two triangles provided. After these explanations, you’ll be able to make your own binding!
Stay tuned; in the next video, I’ll show you how to attach binding.
