A textile interpretation of reflections on water.
Reflets
This wall piece was inspired by a photograph by Daphné Caron, taken on the surface of a river. It shows the sun's reflections filtering through the water, light movements forming and distorting, and the river's sand in the background.
The composition picks up on this play of superimpositions: the shapes suggest the transparency of the water, shifting shadows and flashes of light. Through layers, contrasts and irregular rhythms, the textile becomes a liquid surface - a way of translating the movement of light through matter.
Raw appliqué technique
The elements are cut by hand, then attached to the background without folding, using the raw appliqué technique. The raw edges add a lively texture, echoing the vibrating surface of the water. Free-motion hand quilting gives structure to the whole, without freezing movement.
