A textile composition inspired by the slowness of living things, more specifically lichen.
Lichen
Part of a series of wall pieces created from photographs, this work is inspired by an often discreet natural detail: lichen. Based on an image captured by photographer Daphné Caron, a dialogue was initiated between textile material and plant texture.
Lichen is approached as a territory: an irregular surface where organic forms slowly impose themselves. Through superimpositions, contrasts and play on scale, the composition evokes the silent growth of life on stone, moss and wood. Nothing fixed, but an anchored movement.
Raw appliqué technique
Each shape is first cut by hand, then sewn directly onto the background, without folding or clean edges. The fabric is left free to fray, revealing the gesture and passage of time. This technical choice - raw appliqué - offers a richness of texture that echoes the material of the subject.
The fabrics used are natural fibers, chosen for their handiness, density and palette. The whole is hand-quilted, line by line, creating subtle depth and vibrant presence.
