The undisputed queen of anti-waste in Quebec, no one can match Florence-Léa Siry when it comes to cooking up "empty-fridge" recipes or finding tricks to divert our belongings from the garbage bag. She contacted us last May with a challenge: to make a quilt out of used clothes she no longer wore.
Florence-Léa, passionate and in love with artisans, chose to get involved in the quilt creation process. For her, there was no question of co-creating at a distance. She preferred to visit us directly at our Bedford workshop to select the used clothing that would be used for her quilt. According to their condition and composition, she completed the choice of textiles from our available inventory (composed only of recycled fabrics). Soon, her eyes fell on a leopard print fabric. From that moment on, there was no turning back: there would be leopard in her quilt. To avoid its predominance, she decided to insert it on the back, offering a reversible option!

The result of this Queen size bed quilt has everything to do with its owner: in love with textiles, the stories behind them, colors (especially 🔶💚) and upcycling. That's also what custom quilt projects are all about: repurposing textiles destined to be thrown away, to create unique pieces according to your wishes and desires!
Through this project, Florence-Léa was able to demonstrate what it means to "make something new out of something old" and that it is far from being boring!
