We met Gilles at the 2023 edition of the Salon des métiers d'art du Québec. Interested in the throw displayed on one of the walls of our booth, the conversation between Gilles and us quickly took off. With his indisputable interest in the creation in question, Gilles was not short of questions: creative process, textile composition, techniques used, etc., etc.
After a few minutes of impassioned conversation, Gilles mentioned that he'd been looking for a meaningful piece to put in his bedroom for a long time. When he saw the throw in question, something clicked: format, evocation and color formed a whole that would perfectly complement the vacant bedroom space. However, before going any further, one aspect was paramount: Gilles had to consult his wife and make sure she felt the same way!
***This unique piece is the fruit of over a year's collaboration with textile artist Paula Bouffard. She created dozens of natural plant dyes (acacia bark, avocado, etc.) on various recycled textiles.
Inspired by working with raw materials and the harmony of natural colors, quilter Marilyn Armand has taken up the creative baton. For her part, she explores the element of texture in the creation of this quilt. How, by working with quilting techniques (assembly, choice of fabrics, topstitching, etc.), can she create a movement as rich as the elements that make up her natural everyday environment?
